System Data taking up iPhone Storage

Steps to Manage System Data on iPhone

Important Note: It is essential to follow Step 3 precisely. Consistently performing this procedure is not recommended, as caches enhance the performance of apps and iOS overall. Only carry out this process when System Data usage becomes excessive, especially if it exceeds 25GB for optimal results.

Additional Advice: If you use Instagram and Discord, consider deleting and reinstalling them. These apps often hide their cache within System Data.

Procedure:

  1. Check Current System Data Usage:

    • Navigate to iPhone Storage settings to view your current System Data usage.

  2. Close All Apps:

    • Ensure all apps are closed before proceeding.

  3. Set iMessages to Retain Messages Indefinitely:

    • Go to Settings > iMessage > Message History > Select ‘Forever’. This step is critical to prevent your iMessages from being deleted.

  4. Enable Airplane Mode and Disable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi:

    • This step helps avoid any anomalies with iCloud, Apple Watch, and other apps.

  5. Change the Date to One Year in the Future:

    • Make sure Step 3 is completed before altering the date.
    • Wait for 60 seconds while keeping your phone awake.
    • Check the System Data usage again; it should be significantly reduced. If there is no change, close Settings, relaunch, and recheck.

  6. Adjust the Date to Three Months in the Future:

    • This effectively sets the date nine months back from the previous setting.
    • Wait for another 60 seconds, keeping your phone awake.
    • Check the System Data usage again; it should remain the same or be lower.

  7. Revert the Date to Automatic:

    • Restore the date setting to Automatic.

  8. Disable Airplane Mode:

    • Turn off Airplane Mode and resume normal use.

Following these steps should effectively manage your System Data usage. It is unfortunate that such measures are necessary. Apple should address these long-standing issues with System Data management.
