How do I resolve an FW004 error when updating firmware?

Scenario

When updating the NAS firmware to QTS 4.4.1 or later, you receive a Failed to update system. A flash read/write error occurred. Error code: FW004 error. It may also refer to a corrupted file or an unsupported firmware update. It may give a QNAP firmware update error at 30% as it is trying to update the kernel. You need an intermdiate update installed first to remedy this.

Solution

To resolve this issue, you’ll need to update the NAS firmware to a specific version before you can update to the current firmware.
